Is a single stalk in a vase
only a flower, and not a promise
despite the absence of its thorns?
Is a kettle on the boil
not a call to community and tea?
Is a handshake just a handshake,
And not occasion for another poem?
And when your hand is on it,
is a doorknob not a handle on your future,
and how you leave regrets behind?
